World Bank to halt lending to China by 2031
The World Bank intends to completely stop lending to China by 2031. Loan volumes have already sharply decreased: from $2.4 billion in 2017 to $750 million in 2025. The decision reflects China's elevated economic status as the world's second-largest economy. The United States has supported this move, stating that Beijing should no longer receive development funding from international financial institutions. A similar decision was previously made regarding Poland. The plan will be submitted for review to the World Bank's board of directors in July.
