Overview
The Church of the Assumption in Budslav is one of the finest Baroque churches in Belarus and a major Catholic pilgrimage destination. Its twin four-tiered towers frame a richly decorated interior featuring a historic organ, carved columns, sculptures, and elaborate altars.
History
The current church was built in the 18th century around an earlier structure, developing into the grand Baroque composition visible today. The walls contain remarkable paintings using trompe-l'oeil technique — optical illusions created by artists over 250 years ago that make flat surfaces appear three-dimensional. Budslav hosts an annual pilgrimage (Fest) attracting thousands of believers.
What to see
The stunning Baroque interior with the trompe-l'oeil wall paintings. The historic organ. The miraculous icon of Our Lady of Budslav. The annual Budslav Fest (July) — one of the largest religious gatherings in Belarus.
