Overview
A pristine nature preserve on the outskirts of Minsk, Drozdy Park rewards those willing to venture beyond the well-trodden paths. The most scenic section — reached after a longer walk — reveals a river with artificial waterfalls, original wooden bridges, and century-old trees forming natural green tunnels overhead. It feels like stepping into another world, far removed from the capital.
History
The area takes its name from Pavel Drozd, a prosperous peasant who purchased the land in the late 1800s and established rental country homes for Minsk residents seeking fresh air and nature. After the Drozdov family was dispossessed in the 1930s, the properties were repurposed — including conversion to a pioneer camp. The Drozdy Reservoir was constructed in 1976 on the Svisloch River, serving the dual purpose of providing Minsk with drinking water and creating a comfortable recreation area for the capital's residents.
What to see
The river section with cascading artificial waterfalls and atmospheric wooden bridges crossing streams and ravines. Century-old tree tunnels along forested paths. Drozdy Reservoir beaches — popular for swimming and sunbathing in summer. Well-maintained walking and cycling paths through the park. Picnic zones with grills and shelters. A boat station for exploring the reservoir. Small islands accessible by foot or boat.
