Overview
Standing nearly 30 meters tall with walls 2.5 meters thick, the Kamenets Tower (also known as the White Tower) is the only surviving Volynian-type defensive tower in Belarus and one of the oldest secular structures in the country. This five-story circular tower once served as the centerpiece of a wooden castle surrounded by ramparts and a moat.
History
Built in the 1270s–1280s during the reign of Prince Vladimir Vasilkovich, the tower was designed to defend the western borderlands. It endured Crusader raids, Mongol threats, and centuries of military conflicts. Despite all the wars that swept through this region, the tower has survived largely intact for over 740 years.
