Overview
A jewel of eclectic architecture, the Krasny Bereg estate is a red-brick mansion that playfully mixes Gothic, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau elements under sharp green spires. Inside, over 30 rooms are each uniquely decorated — from Classical to a rare "Arabian" interior inspired by the Alhambra palace in Spain.
History
Built in the 1890s for the Gatovsky-Kozell family, the estate was designed by the prominent architect Viktor Schroeter. The mansion was conceived as a showcase of diverse architectural styles, with each room representing a different historical period or cultural tradition. Despite the turbulence of the 20th century, the interiors survived remarkably intact.
What to see
The unique room-by-room journey through architectural styles. The Arabian room with Alhambra-inspired decoration. The landscaped park. Nearby: the poignant Krasny Bereg children's memorial — a WWII memorial dedicated to child victims.
