Overview
A 1,000-hectare nature reserve of glacial terrain that feels completely unlike the rest of Belarus. Steep slopes reaching 30 degrees, elevation changes of 60 meters, and a labyrinth of deep ravines create a landscape more reminiscent of the Carpathian foothills than the Belarusian lowlands. The microclimates between ravine bottoms and hilltops can differ by 10–12°C, creating distinct ecological zones within walking distance of each other.
History
This extraordinary terrain was carved 300,000 years ago by glacial activity during the Dnieper glaciation. The glaciers left behind a landscape of rare "graben" forests and mixed birch, pine, and oak woodlands growing on impossibly steep slopes — a geological curiosity protected as a republican nature reserve.
What to see
Two marked eco-trails: a 3 km loop and a more challenging 6 km route through the deepest ravines. The dramatic elevation changes and microclimate shifts. Rare graben forest formations. Mixed forests of birch, pine, and oak on steep glacial slopes.
Practical information
Distance from Minsk: ~275 km (3+ hours). Trail access near villages Novinka and Bobrenata. Free entry.
