Overview
Abandoned chalk quarries that have filled with water to create stunning turquoise and emerald lakes framed by white chalk cliffs — a scene so striking it's earned comparisons to Bali and the Maldives. The two main quarries, known locally as "Sinky" (the blue one) and "Zhenka" (the green one), have become one of the most photographed locations in Belarus.
History
The quarries were created by the "Krasnoselskstroymaterialy" factory during decades of chalk extraction. When mining ceased in certain sections, groundwater gradually filled the pits, and the dissolved chalk minerals gave the water its extraordinary turquoise color. The site became a viral sensation on social media, leading to both massive tourist interest and safety concerns.
