American man dies from lightning strike on Mount Etna

A 30-year-old American man died after being struck by lightning on Mount Etna, reports the Italian publication Il Sole 24 Ore. The man was on a closed section of the slope during a powerful thunderstorm. On the evening of August 16, rescuers received an emergency signal and dispatched a fire helicopter. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died.
