At least 8 dead in India after drinking spurious alcohol

At least eight people died in western India after consuming spurious alcohol, Xinhua reported citing local authorities. Another 40 people were affected. The drink contained a high concentration of methanol. The incident occurred in Gujarat state, where alcohol production and sale are completely banned. Violation of this ban carries a long prison sentence.
