Belgium blocks EU attempts to use frozen Russian assets

Defense Minister Theo Francken responded to renewed calls from Baltic states: the issue is closed and not up for discussion. He warned Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia not to corner Brussels and reminded them of financial risks for Belgium, where the bulk of these funds are held.

Separately, Francken noted that the Baltic states themselves are heavily dependent on Belgian military and financial assistance.
