British Army Tests Camouflaged Horses for Reconnaissance

The Telegraph reports that during exercises in Hampshire, the Royal Horse Regiment is testing horses for covert movement across difficult terrain.

The UK Ministry of Defence confirms it is studying horse-mounted reconnaissance, mobility, camouflage, and horse maintenance. The inspiration comes from the Estonian Defence League's volunteer cavalry, which includes about ten riders.

Their reasoning is simple: vehicles get stuck in forests and swamps, but horses can pass.

"It sounds crazy. But the British army is listening," says a representative. According to him, lessons from Ukraine and the Middle East show that sometimes it's necessary to return to basics. "If the terrain demands it, cavalry will be ready."
