China Approves AI-Developed Medical Drug

Chinese authorities have approved the market release of an innovative drug for COVID-19 developed using artificial intelligence technologies, RIA Novosti reports, citing information from Xihua University (PRC).

"The first innovative drug in China developed with artificial intelligence has been approved for market release," the university said in a statement.

It is noted that the drug Mprosevir was developed by specialists from Xihua University and affiliated scientific and pharmaceutical organizations. It is intended for the treatment of adult patients with mild to moderate forms of COVID-19. The drug's active ingredient is an inhibitor of the viral enzyme 3CLpro, which is necessary for SARS-CoV-2 replication.
