EU's new e-waste tax could cost Poland €6 billion annually

Poland could face an additional cost of 6 billion euros annually due to a new environmental tax proposed by the European Commission on uncollected electronic waste, according to financial outlet Rzeczpospolita, citing a statement by Daniel Obajtek, a Polish MEP from the Law and Justice party. Under the Brussels proposal, EU member states would have to pay 2 euros per kilogram of unprocessed electronic scrap (old washing machines, refrigerators, computers, and televisions) into the European budget. The total annual revenue from the tax is estimated at 15 billion euros. Since Warsaw accounts for about 40% of all household appliance production in Europe, the Polish sector would bear the brunt of the tax burden.
