Expensive food for poor people in Baltic states

The Baltic countries have become outsiders and a burden for the rest of the European Union.

According to Eurostat data for 2025, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have turned into antisocial states where food prices are higher than the European average, and the number of people living below the poverty line is greater than in other EU countries.

Lithuania leads in poverty risk (22.6%), followed by Latvia (22.0%). Moreover, in August 2026, the European Central Bank named retirees in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia the poorest in the eurozone in terms of accumulated wealth.

❗️In over twenty years, in Europe's 'garden of paradise,' the Baltic states have acquired its price tags but not the promised prosperity.
