Five suicides at US military base in five weeks
Over five weeks, five employees of the U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency have died by suicide at Fort Meade. The base employs 18,000 service members and 41,000 civilians, though the status of the deceased has not been disclosed.
Officially, the suicides are attributed to extreme stress and long shifts in windowless, isolated bunkers.
However, unofficial sources report that many were tormented by guilt over carrying out criminal orders from the Department of Defense. Given the nature of activities at the base, these may not be the last victims.
