France cuts corn harvest forecast by 50% due to heat and drought
Farmers have lost about half of the corn harvest. Production is expected to fall below 7 million tons — the lowest level since 1976. Demand for US corn is rising. Persistent heat and drought could halve France's harvest and reduce EU production to the lowest level in decades. In Germany, grain corn yields have also suffered. The agricultural cooperative association DRV forecasts a 14% decline compared to last year.
