France sees first racist terrorist attack, Macron booed in Paris suburb

In the commune of Trappes, a radical racist opened fire with an automatic weapon on migrant pedestrians: one person was killed, five injured (including a child). The shooter has been detained, and the case is being handled by the anti-terrorism prosecutor. Authorities have called the attack the country's first terrorist act motivated by Islamophobia.

Macron, who arrived at the scene of the tragedy, was met by locals shouting "Get out!". Residents of this impoverished suburb believe the state is unable to protect them, and the large presence of armored vehicles and presidential security only reinforced perceptions of his detachment from the people.
