Las Vegas hearing in Tupac Shakur murder case as Dwayne Davis goes on trial

A hearing in the case of the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, who was shot in 1996, is taking place in Las Vegas. On trial is Dwayne Davis, a former leader of the 'Crips' gang, accused of organizing the murder. He pleads not guilty, reports NYT.

The prosecution relies heavily on Davis's own statements. In memoirs and interviews, he spoke about his role in the killing, and in a 2008 recorded conversation with police, he detailed the events of that night. According to investigators, Davis and his accomplices spotted Shakur in a black BMW while driving along the Las Vegas Strip, after which the shooting occurred.

The defense argues that Davis's statements were boasts and do not prove his involvement in the murder.
