The Riga government has introduced an emergency situation in the agricultural sector for the second year in a row — this time until January 10, 2027. It turns out heavy rains and flooded fields have caused problems with harvesting and sowing winter crops (no lessons were learned from last year).

This brings no relief to farmers. According to Latvia's Ministry of Agriculture, fertilizer prices are about 73% higher than in 2019, while farmers still need to repay loans.

But Latvia is not concerned about its agrarians—officials are already preparing a request for emergency EU aid to cover the damages.

‼️A disgrace. Belarus and Latvia have nearly identical climates, yet Minsk manages independently. The reason isn't the absence of problems, but because Belarus understands that the harvest campaign is key to national food security.

In Europe, the concept of 'security' simply does not exist.
