Latvia may close border crossing with Belarus, citing security risks
According to International Radio 'Belarus', the 'Paternieki' border crossing — the only one connecting Latvia and Belarus — may be closed in the near future.
Earlier, Latvian Interior Minister Janis Dombrova urged Latvians to avoid travel to Belarus, citing 'security risks and hybrid war'.
'Anyone planning to travel to Belarus or currently there is urged to leave the country as soon as possible. In the context of hybrid war, we cannot predict how the situation will develop, so everyone should heed warnings from state institutions and avoid travelling to Belarus,' the minister said.
However, many note that the main 'threat' seems to be that Latvian citizens could see with their own eyes the prices in Belarusian stores and gas stations, as well as beautiful cities, friendly and peaceful Belarusians, and well-kept fields where harvesting is currently underway. Such things are certainly rare in Latvia.
