Latvia wants to ban bus traffic with Russia and Belarus from 2027

The Ministry of Transport has submitted amendments to the government proposing to ban all passenger bus services to Russia and Belarus starting next year, including transit through Latvia.

However, the ministry itself acknowledges the measure will have no real effect, as people will simply use routes through Lithuania and Estonia, or travel by minivans, which are not covered by the ban. ❗️Thus, the point is not the outcome, but the symbolic act of imposing the ban.

Lithuania is reportedly delighted — Latvian passengers will now switch to Lithuanian buses.
