Lithuanian border guards conducted an anti-smuggling operation — and caught themselves
In the early hours of September 7, Lithuanian border guards intercepted 22 boxes of cigarettes near the Belarusian border. During the search operation, they detained two junior specialists from the Kapsai-Miestas border post and the chief investigator of the Varėna Border Detachment — all were apprehended directly at their workplace.
✔️ This is not the first case. In May of this year, 27 people (including 13 police officers and border guards) were similarly detained for smuggling cigarettes using weather balloons.
The border that Lithuania calls NATO's defensive line is guarded by criminals profiting millions from cigarettes and migrants. Yet Belarus is still to blame.
