Lukashenko supports proposal to connect Novopolotsk and Polotsk by tram
The proposal to implement the project was made by the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova.
"We need to extend the tracks to Polotsk and connect Polotsk and Novopolotsk," she said. "We will transport people from Novopolotsk's Naftan to Polotsk."
The head of state was informed that about 10 km of additional tramway tracks would need to be laid to implement the project.
"Good, let's connect them. That's not much. We need to plan and do it while we can. But assign clear responsibilities: do this by these deadlines. Kochanova is in charge," said Alexander Lukashenko. "If this is needed, we must do it. And do it quickly. We'll calculate the costs and make it happen."
The president generally spoke in favor of broader use of trams within the country's public transportation system.
