Mushroom foraging in Poland leads to archaeological discovery
In the forest of the Masovian Voivodeship, mushroom pickers noticed a burial urn dating back to the 4th century BCE—about 2,400 years old—on a pile of sand. Inside, cremation remains were preserved; nearby lay a fragment of a burial cap and a small bowl that had covered the urn.
The mushroom pickers also found a silver Roman denarius of Emperor Commodus from 181–192 CE: one side depicts a profile with a crown, the other a seated Roma with Nike. The artifacts have been handed over to specialists.
