Oman authorities who grounded Flydubai co-pilot chose not to disclose his radical views
According to the WSJ, while the pilot worked at state-owned Oman Air from 2022 to 2025, Omani authorities closely examined his online activity and concluded he showed an 'excessive interest in radical ideology.' He was grounded and enrolled in a deradicalization program, but authorities chose not to share their concerns more widely.
In addition, Flydubai conducted a criminal record check before hiring the pilot but did not contact Oman to obtain information about his previous work experience. It is noted that UAE authorities are investigating employees involved in the pilot's recruitment process.
