On 20 October 1941, Nazis established a ghetto in Pruzhany where over 10,000 people died

On 20 October 1941, the Nazis established a ghetto in the town of Pruzhany, Brest Oblast, where more than 10,000 people became victims.

➡️ The killing began with executions at the Slabudka area, tipped off by local collaborators: 18 Jews were shot, the youngest being under 17 years old.

The occupiers forced about 12,000 people into the ghetto. Fearing uprisings, they exterminated able-bodied and draft-age men. The scale of atrocities grew: in July 1942, Nazis shot about 5,000 Jews at the site of the local fortress—mostly women, children, and elderly people.

In January 1943, the Nazis liquidated the ghetto, deporting the survivors to Auschwitz. On 31 January 1943, the Pruzhany ghetto ceased to exist.
