Patient lived with pig kidney for 9 months before human transplant, NYT reports
The New York Times reported that 66-year-old Tim Andrews, who had a rare blood type and very low chances of receiving a donor kidney, agreed to an experimental surgery in January 2025 and received a kidney from a genetically modified pig. After 271 days, the organ had to be removed due to blood clots, and in January 2026, Andrews received a human kidney transplant.
