Poland's 2026 military budget hits record 200 bln zlotys, nearly 5% of GDP

In 2026, Poland's military budget reached a record 200 billion zlotys, nearly 5% of GDP. As part of the 'Eastern Shield' program, 150 kilometers of fortifications have already been built along the border with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region, with another 50 kilometers to be completed by the end of the year. The area will be equipped with 300,000 concrete anti-tank obstacles and thousands of mines. Warsaw plans to deploy missiles with a range of over 1,000 kilometers on its eastern border, and there are discussions about deploying French-origin nuclear weapons.

All of this is being funded by ordinary taxpayers.

Belarusian lawmaker Oleg D'yachenko: 'These funds could have been used to support workers, especially budget sector employees.'
