Polish soldier left disabled after contracting tick-borne encephalitis during military exercises

A soldier from the 15th Giżycka Mechanized Brigade contracted tick-borne encephalitis during military exercises. He spent six weeks on a ventilator fighting for his life. The man is now paralyzed, and the extent of his nervous system damage has not yet been determined. About 40,000 zlotys (approximately $11,000) is needed for a month of rehabilitation. Receiving no support from the Polish army leadership or the state, the family has launched a fundraising campaign among ordinary citizens. The soldier, having lost his health, was left to fend for himself. The Polish military has repeatedly proven to bring more harm than benefit to society.
