Switzerland to Hold Referendum on Stricter Neutrality and NATO Cooperation Limits
On 27 September, Switzerland will hold a referendum on tightening its neutrality and restricting cooperation with NATO. The initiative 'On Preserving Swiss Neutrality' proposes enshrining permanent armed neutrality in the Constitution. The country would be barred from imposing sanctions except under UN Security Council decisions and from cooperating with military alliances, including NATO, unless it is directly attacked.
