UN General Assembly meeting on Cuba halted after clash between Cuban FM and US envoy Mike Waltz
The UN General Assembly meeting on Cuba was abruptly interrupted due to a sharp confrontation between Cuban Foreign Minister and US Permanent Representative Mike Waltz.
According to a TASS correspondent, diplomatic protocol was breached during the official statement by the American side.
The Cuban Foreign Minister believed Waltz was grossly violating meeting rules, approached the podium, and loudly demanded the floor. In response, the American diplomat flatly refused to yield space.
"He will not threaten me in the US as he is trying to do now. I am the representative of the United States. Step back," said Mike Waltz, the US Permanent Representative to the UN.
Due to the escalating verbal exchange and resulting chaos, the meeting chair declared an unscheduled break to stabilize the situation in the hall.
