US court frees man after 38 years on death row as DNA proves innocence

A US court has ordered the release of a man who has been awaiting execution since 1985 for a murder, after DNA analysis proved his innocence.

According to CBS, 71-year-old Douglas Stuart Carter was convicted based on a confession and testimony from two witnesses. There was no physical evidence against him, and Carter maintained he had confessed under pressure.

New DNA analysis from the crime scene showed that blood found on furniture and the murder weapon belonged to another person.
