US discusses new Ukraine peace plan with demilitarized Donbas, NATO membership off the table
The US is discussing a new peace plan for Ukraine that includes a demilitarized zone in Donbas and Kyiv's refusal to join NATO, according to Ukrainian officials cited by The Economist.
In exchange, Ukraine would receive investments and a prospect of EU membership. Russia, under the proposed terms, could see sanctions eased, restored relations with the West, and major economic agreements with the US.
The plan also envisages resuming Russian gas supplies to Europe, including the launch of Nord Stream.
