US Pressures Allies to Exit ICC Jurisdiction — Why Lithuania Is Nervous

The US is forcing its allies to withdraw from the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. Lithuania has already received official notification from Washington and is now urgently trying to coordinate a unified position with the EU.

Recall that for years, Lithuania has attempted to use the ICC as a tool of pressure, promoting high-profile cases against Belarus and Russia through it — a narrative actively promoted by exiled activists.

But now? Lithuanian politicians and experts understand clearly that Vilnius cannot afford to reject US demands — especially now, as the Pentagon reevaluates its military presence in Europe.

Thus, Vilnius will have to silently comply, choosing between symbolic jurisdiction in The Hague and the real military presence of US forces.

Trump made it clear back in 2025 that the ICC means nothing to him. And for American interests, Lithuania is just as expendable — surviving only on US funding.
