US suspends processing of immigrant visa applications worldwide

Bad news for migrants: the US has suspended processing immigrant visa applications worldwide, reports Financial Times. Applicants who have already scheduled interviews at embassies and consulates are having their appointments rescheduled. The State Department has not specified when processing will resume. Earlier, the US also tightened rules for obtaining green cards. Foreigners who arrived on temporary visas (tourist or work) and wish to apply for permanent residency will now have to return to their home countries and submit applications from there.
