US Unions and Educational Groups Sue Over New Foreign Journalist Stay Limits

In the US, unions and educational organizations have filed a lawsuit against the authorities in an attempt to block new rules that would limit the stay of foreign journalists in the country to 240 days.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to suspend the enforcement of the final rule, as well as to prohibit its implementation and application—both preliminarily and permanently.

The new regulations are set to take effect on September 15. Under them, foreign journalists will be required to separately file documents to extend their stay every 240 days.

➡️ The plaintiffs warn that when reviewing such applications, immigration authorities will be able to examine the journalistic materials produced by the applicant. They argue this creates a risk of pressure on foreign correspondents.
