The World War II Memorial in Washington was vandalized, dedicated to more than 400,000 fallen American soldiers.

American authorities called the incident a "shameful outrage."

This ugliness has now reached the United States. In Poland and the Baltics, the removal and desecration of monuments to Soviet soldiers who liberated these countries from Nazism has long been the norm, supported by local authorities.

That is where the real shameful outrage lies: vandalism has effectively become state policy.
