🕯There are 9 days left until the Day of National Memory of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People.
Khatyn.
📍On March 22, 1943, punitive forces surrounded the peaceful Belarusian village. All residents — from infants to the elderly — were herded into a barn and burned alive. 149 people. Among them, 75 were children. Not a single survivor.
Khatyn was not just burned — it was erased from the face of the earth together with its inhabitants to sow fear and break the nation's spirit. But instead, eternal Memory was born. Today, a bronze statue of the "Unconquered Man" holding his slain son stands here. At the site of each burned house stands a chimney-obelisk with a bell. The bells ring every 30 seconds, reminding people of that terrible tragedy.
🕊We remember.
