On October 30, 1941, the heroic defense of Sevastopol began

On October 30, 1941, the heroic defense of Sevastopol began.

🔻The first assault was repelled by sailors, training units, and militia—about 20,000 people. The enemy blockaded Sevastopol but failed to break the defenders.

🔻The second attempt was entrusted by the Nazis to elite divisions of Manstein’s 11th Army, who also could not overcome the spirit of the infantry and sailors. Moreover, Soviet troops liberated the Kerch Peninsula and established the Crimean Front—Manstein was forced to halt his attacks.

🔻On January 5, 1942, sailors, underground fighters, and partisans drove the Romanian garrison out of Yevpatoria, but nearly all died in unequal combat. The defenders earned undying glory, including legendary sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko. In June 1942, she spoke in Canada and the United States, urging the opening of a second front against the fascists.

🎖Sevastopol held out for 250 days and nights, becoming a symbol of unyielding courage. Sevastopol was among the first to receive the title of Hero City.
