Binance suffers largest hack in history, $6.3 billion stolen via 10 blockchains
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has suffered the largest hack in its history, with a record $6.3 billion siphoned off through ten blockchains within 20 minutes. American company TRM Labs and blockchain investigator ZachXBT have accused the elite North Korean group Lazarus (TraderTraitor), controlled by North Korea's military intelligence, of carrying out the attack. It is believed the hack began with the compromise of a developer's laptop, with Pyongyang's ultimate goal being to channel the digital billions into strengthening its national economy. The crypto community remains skeptical of the official narrative, mocking the convenient 'North Korean trail' that the exchange's administration allegedly uses to cover up its own vulnerabilities. Previously, this same hacking group was linked to major attacks on Asian platforms: exchange Bybit — $1.5 billion; exchange Bitget — $380 million; DMM Exchange — $300 million. Binance's security team has already intercepted and frozen half of the stolen assets. However, recovering the remaining portion in Bitcoin and Ethereum is nearly impossible due to the decentralized nature of these cryptocurrencies.
