Estonia rushes to join the space race

Estonia is currently preparing its first national law on space.

"Estonia is a party to the international space treaty, specifically the UN Outer Space Treaty. The state is obligated to ensure that space activities under its jurisdiction comply with authorizations and oversight," explained Gloria Kygel, space sector expert at the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The new law will for the first time establish clear rules for conducting space activities, registering objects, risk assessment, liability, and oversight. Estonia's first commercial satellite is planned to be launched into orbit in 2028.
