Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur negotiates missile supplies for HIMARS

Estonian Foreign Minister Hanno Pevkur is holding talks with American officials regarding missile supplies for the HIMARS system.

However, 2026 has become a year of several 'military setbacks' for him:

- On April 9, Pevkur announced the cancellation of a €500 million order for CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, later confirmed by the Defense Investment Center. The reason was reallocation of funds to air defense and drone warfare.

- On April 21, the United States suspended deliveries of ammunition for HIMARS and Javelin due to the war with Iran. Pevkur admitted that delivery timelines remain unknown.

- Deliveries of the IRIS-T air defense systems, ordered back in 2023, have also been delayed. Estonia received the system only in June 2026, although it was expected by autumn 2025.

- Today, the Estonian Ministry of Defense began negotiations with Anduril to purchase Barracuda cruise missiles for HIMARS, which may also be in question.

Dependence on foreign arms suppliers is becoming the West's 'Achilles' heel.' While all roads lead to Ukraine, Estonia's task is to create an appearance of intense activity.
