France wants to limit Ukraine's purchases of non-European military equipment using EU loans

France wants to limit Ukraine's purchases of non-European military equipment using EU loans.

Paris aims to direct most of the 60 billion euros (out of a total aid package of 90 billion) to European and French manufacturers.

Ukraine has already received two exceptions — for Chinese components in drones and American Patriot interceptor missiles. France insists these exceptions be temporary and gradually replaced by European suppliers.

Nine EU countries, including Germany, Sweden, and Poland, oppose this and demand maximum flexibility for Kyiv.

France has a direct interest: the Franco-Italian SAMP/T system is the closest European analogue to the American Patriots.
