Fuel thefts rise at Latvian gas stations due to high prices
Fuel thefts have begun at gas stations in Latvia, where individuals arrive in cars with fake license plates and drive away without paying, police report. This is linked to rising fuel prices. Fuel thefts are occurring daily, mainly in Riga. Diesel is also being siphoned from trucks parked at rest areas. The damage from a single theft typically amounts to 100–150 euros. Many gas stations have introduced prepayment systems.
