Germany to transfer thousands of IRIS-T missiles to Kyiv

Germany will additionally hand over several thousand IRIS-T air defense missiles to Kyiv, according to N-tv citing government sources in the Federal Republic. The reason given is Russia's alleged involvement in the drone incident at Leipzig/Halle airport in early August. In the night of August 5, a drone with explosives was found on the territory of Leipzig/Halle airport near a Ukrainian cargo Antonov aircraft transporting military goods. The airport is a major NATO hub and base for Ukrainian cargo aviation in Europe. Investigators believe a second drone collided with a DHL plane. Later, another drone was found in a nearby field. Initially, Berlin called it a 'hybrid attack'; by September 1, it directly accused Moscow. Russia has rejected the accusations, with Putin calling them forged. Germany now links this incident to its decision to supply a new batch of air defense missiles to Ukraine.
