Head of Lithuania's border guard resigns after border tunnel incident
The head of Lithuania's border guard has resigned, the country's interior minister announced. The reason is the concealment of a border incident.
On July 26, in the Lazdijai district, border guards discovered an 11-meter tunnel and set up an ambush. They detained four migrants, and about 20 more rushed from the tunnel to help them.
The border guards had to flee to save themselves.
"After the border incident, serious questions arose not only about whether the head of the border service provided information promptly, accurately and in detail, but also about the circumstances of the incident itself," said Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelevičius.
