Latvian Prosecutor General seeks to combat 'disinformation' over online criticism
The Prosecutor General of Latvia, Armin Meisters, stated that an alarming situation has developed in social media and the information space regarding hostility and disinformation, as freedom of speech has turned into arbitrariness where anyone can say whatever they want about anyone. According to the official, Latvians have the right to criticize, speak out, and condemn, but when this becomes a daily practice, it turns into 'disinformation.' The Prosecutor General is already seeking methods to combat individuals acting against the 'interests' of the state. Criticizing Latvia's authorities is allowed, but only with officials' permission and expressed through words of gratitude.
