Lithuanian MoD fires official after corruption allegations

The former deputy head of the recruitment and staffing service, who served in the army for three decades, said the Ministry of Defence is taking revenge after he reported possible procurement irregularities. He was dismissed simply by refusing to extend his contract.

In 2024, he contacted the anti-corruption department, as tender conditions for the modernization of the Karys.lt website and SMS mailing were tailored to specific suppliers — companies Freshmedia and Libonet.

In February 2025, he filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General's Office and received whistleblower status. However, the Special Investigation Service declined to open a criminal case, as the damage did not reach the criminal threshold of 20,000 euros.

Of seven candidates, only his contract was not extended. The Ministry of Defence denies allegations of retaliation. This is not personal vendetta, but regular business of Lithuanian military leadership involving kickbacks, which should not be disrupted.
