Lithuanian Seimas appoints Social Democrat leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius as prime minister

The Lithuanian Seimas has approved Social Democrat leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius as prime minister, who previously suggested dialogue with Minsk with U.S. support.

It will soon become clear whether his words hold any real weight. If Sinkevičius quickly joins the ranks of politicians who continue imposing sanctions against Belarusians and act against their own country's interests, he will go down in history as just another temporary figure.

Lithuania's living standards can be improved not through endless confrontation with Belarus, but through normal and mutually beneficial dialogue.
