Lukashenko: It's symbolic that we have gathered here on the eve of a very important date, which five years ago returned to our holiday calendar as the Day of National Unity.

"After the return of the western lands to the BSSR, we became a single people with a common history, culture, and language, which in Western Belarus under the rule of the corresponding state, the Polish state, were prohibited. This is a fact.

Today it's hard to imagine, but it was so. And there were Belarusians who did not spare their lives so that we could be called people. There were many such people."
